Revision Tips

In maths, practise makes perfect. If you can get hold of some past exam questions, try doing these. Practise until you can do all questions easily without your notes.

• It is often useful to write down things that you find hard to learn onto small cards which fit into your pocket. Then, whenever you have a spare moment, you can whip out a card or two and learn what's on them.

• When revising for any subject, don't just read your notes, because this usually gets very boring very quickly, and you will switch off after a few minutes. The best thing to do is read a page of notes, then test yourself by writing down the main points from the notes. Any points you missed out you must make a special effort to learn.

Remember: with most exam boards you get a formula sheet in your exam. It is best if you know the formulae (it saves a lot of time), but for some of the more complicated or hard to remember formulae (such as the volumes and surface areas of cones, spheres and cylinders), it's OK not to know the formulae off by heart, as long as in the exam you know how and when to use them. You should ask your teacher which formulae you will be given in your exam.
